Your post is self defeating, you will never find a board that suits you 100%, and if you don't continually contribute bits of what interests you, then you have only yourself to blame when no one else does. The boards are what the posters make them. Be it entertainment, information, humor, news, dead, lively, staid, or a free for all.
Personally, I find those board which allow off topic banter, and yes the occasional bickering, to be much more dynamic, colorful, entertaining and (gasp)FUN that the dry almost lifeless "just the facts" type. I really ENJOY the boards that feel like an after hours bull session.
Another thing, unless I'm really bored, I will simply skip over those strings that don't hold any interest for me. I'm sure that there are some guys who actually enjoy discussing at length the proper color for muffler bearings on 463, or the correct shape for the ash pan retaining clips for 268, or trying to determine what the engineer of 487 ate for lunch on June 7 1952 -- I don't, but more power to them that do.
Its EASY to sit back and gripe. Its harder to get off your duff and participate.
