Jeff,
You described the whistle I heard. I liked the way it sounded, mainly because to me it sounded better than 497's at the time. We rode behind 497 by the way. Anyway, we watched 480 stop at Hermosa, then pull out and as it crossed 550 I heard that whistle which Ill never forget. It had a little bit of slide on the last long, which sounded awesome. Ill try to record it from the tape and see if I can get it posted somewhere...
