Hi,
I shortened the length of the pony truck and added two courses to the K37 boiler.
To me, it seems best to use a different pony truck or remove it completely. Not easily finding a D&RGW SG 2-8-0 or 2-8-2 boiler that might have been available in 1930, I stayed with the K37/C41 boiler.
Making this a 2-8-0+0-8-2, the loco would be about 10 feet shorter even with the longer boiler.
The concern about steam production and the vague idea to use two K37 boiler would make a long center bridge. For the small radius on Cumbres, I do not think that a 60-odd foot pivot point to pivot point would work. It could be argued that since the cab was in the middle, a truck under the center cab would generate a 2-8-2+4+2-8-2. Gad isn't that a mouthful.
A larger diameter boiler would be a definite need.
FWIW
