It's only a 34 year old memory, but I recall it was going to the mine at Carolina. There were daily doubleheaded GMAM workings to Carolina then, but I don't recall if there were normally scheduled steam workings to Breyten by that point (October 1981). There probably were, I just didn't know for sure. I did catch a train east out of Breyten with a GMAM, but it was returning a Waterval Boven shedded Garratt that had been working on a railfan special. We had driven into Breyten the day before and stumbled into a class 24 doubleheader leaving for the Lothair branch. Right behind it coming into Breyten was a class 15E (poppet valves) on a railfan special. A class 15CA was switching the yard at Breyten, and there was a 15AR and a couple of locos I can't remember there in steam. There is nothing like regular service steam!!!
