The proper name was LCL (Less than Car Load). In the new Richardson's Rio Grande book, on page 160 there is a picture of a short reefer in LCL service, that Bob calls the usual Friday train. It has #487 and 493 in Monero Canyon, in the winter of 1956.
Most pictures that I have seen seem to be in the 1950's.
