On the trail to Arc Dome Peak about 150 miles north east of Tonopah are the remains of a B-24 that was lost on a night flight back to the base. The plane hit the top of a ridge and then crashed into the valley beyond. All three servicemen aboard were killed. The site was mainly cleaned up by bulldozing a road into it from Cottonwood Canyon, but significant pieces still remain. I stumbled upon the wreck when I was hiking Arc Dome back in 2006. A chance find of a scrap of aluminum near the trail and the glint of sunlight on shattered glass about 1/4 mile off the trail led me to the site. Sad to say, there are still small human remains there. I re-buried what I found and inquiries about the military unit (JPAC) responsible for recovering lost remains revealed that they were way overloaded in cases and probably would not get to it for decades...
