NNG: The 4449 train from and to Portland

In the interests of avoiding a nit that fans can jump on (since you are writing a book) the consists to and from LA for the filming were different. How and why I have no info. This is the trip south taken on the southside of San Jose:
The econo baggage, Budd fluted side cars, and the business car are SP, so Mike Ongerth probably has some info on why they were used.
And below is the northbound trip taken somewhere north of Fresno:
This looks to be the movie consist you mentioned with the addition of the combine. Note the combine is running backwards:
