Hi Russo! Yes, it was 1986 that #4449 came south from Portland for the filming of "Tough Guys" with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas as a pair of old train robbers who had recently been released from prison and wanted to score one last time. Filming was done at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles and out at Eagle Mountain in the desert. A wreck scene at the end utilized both miniatures and a full sized mockup of #4449. The mockup was acquired by a private party and as of about 10 years ago was still stored under cover in an old building at Desert Center on I-10, next to the cafe. The movie train that accompanied #4449 from Portland for use in the film was just three cars long and consisted of a baggage car, Northern Pacific Traveler's Rest car #496, and an observation car (the Great Northern "Appekunny Mountain" I believe). All were painted in "Daylight" colors to match the loco.
