Hi Dale,
FYI - and you may take this with as many grains of salt as you wish ... after all, you're the man on the ground ...
I responded to a post some time back - either on this board or another - from someone who had noticed a locomotive on display in Peru. Sorry, I don't recall if it was located in the area around the former FC del Santa or around Cuzco. For some reason, we came to believe the loco was the former SV #17.
Now it *IS* possible, the poster may have been referring to the loco in your photograph, which is attractive and clearly an inside frame, probably 3' gauge, Baldwin 2-8-2. But sadly, the loco in the photo does not resemble the class of SV Baldwins in question.
Just in case you manage to return to the area, here are some specs on the SV locos:
SV numbers 16 and 17 were inside frame, Baldwin 2-8-2s,
builder #'s 42073 and 42074,
built in 1915,
with 42 inch drivers and 17X22, slide valve cylinders.
They weighed 141,910 pounds.
SV #18 was virtually identical to the 16 and 17, but was built in 1916 and had a builders number of 42815.
All were reportedly sold to the Peruvian Government in 1945.
(All the above info comes from pages 106-107 of "Rails Sagebrush and Pine", by Mallory Hope Ferrell, Golden West Books 1967.)
Please keep the info coming - this is GREAT!
Best Regards,
Glenn
