OK Rich, a bit of a stretch here, but SP 4268 was under steam in
early 1972 when I saw her. Not only that, but I have slides of me
removing one of the builders plates (with permission, of course).
Now for the fine print...this was not the complete locomotive, but
the boiler of SP 4268 and also an SP MT class boiler were both under
steam at 150 lbs. and supplying steam to Whetsel-Oviatt Lbr. Co.
at Omo Ranch near Placerville, CA. The owner was Glen Oviatt and he
gave my friend and & a tour of the property when we dropped in
unannounced that weekday. The mill was moved a few years later, but
the boilers did not survive. This is a true story. I had one slide
showing the boiler in a Winterail show that I did in 2008 if anybody
can remember back that far.
