I learned the same way. As a fireman for Rich Braden, he motioned for me to come over and run the 487 on one of my earlier trips up the hill in 1980. First time at the throttle of a K-36, let alone running a train up Cumbres. I was performing my magic on the whistle as we approached Coxo crossing. No sand and hand far away from the throttle.......it wasn't pretty. eye rolling smiley
