URy engine #40

The Uintah Railways engine #40 was built as narrow guage, not standard gauge. It was originally built for the "New York & Bermudez Co." of Venezuala, a subsidiary compnay of the Barber Asphalt Paving compnay ( later just Barber Company) one of many sister companies of the Uintah , owned by Barber. It was originally numbered 10 & later renumbered 20. In 1919 it was brought back to the US and sold to the Uintah Railway. Once there it was taken from Mack to Atchee, jacked up off of its wheels and pulled over Baxter Pass, where it served for several years on the north side of the pass, pulling trains around Dragon. At some point in that time period the "whale back" tender was expanded to add more water capacity. Later it was pulled over the pass again and served the rest of its life out on the run between Mack and Atchee. Scarapped in 1939.
