Guys,
Have been reading the thread somewhat and like some of the suggestions.
To expand on some of them here are some thoughts.
(1) Advertise a flanger train to Cumbres for the first Friday or Saturday in December. If there is no snow turn it into a photo freight with perhaps the two engines you might have used on the flanger train.
(2) Sunday..Run Christmas trains.
(2a) In the past the Christmas trains from Chama have always gone only to Dalton where Santa meets the train. There was never a need for a flanger just to go to Dalton.
Anyway, the upside of this idea is
(1) Cold weather, and hopefully some snow for the flanger.
(2) If no snow, at least its a cold weather photo freight.
(3) Photographers will get a bonus of the Christmas train on Sunday.
(4) Railroad could offer longer Winter runs to Cumbres if the line is cleared. These could be with the second engine in addition to the Santa Runs perhaps!!!
(5) Added revenue for the Railroad and travel industry in Chama.
Downsides
(1) Maybe no snow.
(2) Tough for folks to get there in December if bad weather
(3) Christmas season, and some folks cannot get away(Me selling Videos)
(4) Railroad has to call back employees to get this all put together
Personal Comment.
I love steam in winter, but for me its tough to get far during this time of year, and the risk is high for bad weather somewhere along the way. I agree the sun angles would be far better than May when past Rotary OY trips were run(but at least it was spring as far as getting there).
