turntable with three rails did exist. when turned, you would either line up the SG rails or the NG rails. The slight kink in the NG rails was so small that there was no problems with the smaller NG power.
As for the bridge dual gauge question, With an offset center-line to center-line of 10.5" (for 36" gauge), I doubt there is any need to worry about the ties failing. SG bridges with guard rails to keep SG equipment more or less on the bridge to the end of the bridge would have been more like an offset narrow gauge car and in fact it would be heavier.
I seem to recall seeing plans (prototype) that suggested placing bridge and trestle stringers under all three rails of a dual gauge trestle. I sure wish I could recall where I saw this.
