Photography is one reason 346 is outside. Insurance regs do not allow roundhouse tours except for the gallery. There are 140 pieces of equipment on the property. Tying up even one stall for 346 means we can't do inside work on others. The roundhouse was not built until 2000. Prior to that all work on equipment was done outside. Imagine laying on your back in January, in snow, repairing draft or brake rigging.Even in summer cars being worked on outside would have to be secured at the end of the day. In a perfect world we would be like the California State Railroad Museum, with everything inside. Then visitors would complain they can't take pictures of the entire car. The CRRM has always prided itself on being a hands on Museum. When 346 is inside, visitors complain they can't get close enough to it.

PS Also left outside on the radial tracks from the turntable are steam engines #40,DB&W 30 (RGS 74) Shays 12 & 14, 191, Diesels 130, 140, 15, 50, 4, Shop switcher PeeWee, and our newly aquired tracmobile, standard gauge. (highrail switcher) and Goose 7. Where do we start?
