Its a bit easier not to crash into each other when your running 2 opposing trains, rather than the 10-15 or more trains on some track warrant territory today. The short section of track warrant we run on the UP, might see 3-6 BNSF north bound and 10-15 UP North and South bound trains. One days trains for this section of track would be an entire months worth of trains on some subdivisions of the narrow gauge.
Although the narrow gauge was not without its mishaps, plenty of stories and pictures attest to the very dangerous nature of narrow gauge railroading. Todays railroads handle a tremendous amount of tonnage, trains, and MOW gangs, with no mishaps.
