First off there needs to be some acknowledgement of the history of the rebuild of #463 (without playing the blame game as that serves no purpose at this point IMHO) which has taken place over the span of several years. Multiple contractors have been involved at various locations; Chama, Alabama, Monta Vista, and now Antonito. The AHR inventory of # 463 showed that no major parts were missing, but it would not be surprising with all the moves and handling involved that some piece parts could have been misplaced.
It is what it is at this point. Let’s allow the capable C&TS shop crew (who have been on this project from its inception) to perform the work and “get it done” without all the second guessing and endless recrimination. The original AHR work estimate was 1500 hours to complete the task, so with a 3 man crew that started on Nov. 5 and working on it full time to completion it would appear that #463
could be ready for spring 2013. Of course this assumes no significant delays or other problems are encountered, so staying tuned to the Friends website for updates as the project moves forward seems like a reasonable course to follow. My 2 ½ cents.
