The 19 is a sick cookie. But she does run and recently moved 487 from one stall to another in Antonito. She has been inspected and we have estimates for repairs. We anticipate doing some minimum repairs very soon, in the hope that she can be used in ballast train service this year. However, her normally asperated engines, in addition to being worn out, don't work very well at 7000 feet. Longer term we are considering replacing her existing two prime movers with turbocharged units, which should substantially improve her performance. But there is much for the C&TS to fix in the short term, and it is unclear how soon major work on the 19 can be fit into the budget.
