Hi, All -
While several Instigators and Curmudgeons of previous years' adventures -
including Ernie himself - have been carousing in Chama and Osier, yore's
trooly has been slaving away over a hot scanner, in order to share yet an-
other 1½ dozen of Ernie Robart's fabulous slides with the whirled.
Per the note he sent along, Ernie took these first few on Ektachrome film and processed it himself at home. Ektachrome doesn't hold up nearly as well as Kodachrome over the long haul, but these have done pretty well, and make a valuable addition to the history of the D&RGW narrow gauge.
Here's a train at Aztec on August 23, 1966 - with Ernie's '58 Ford in the foreground
:
The same train entering Farmington later in the day
:
Two days later, Ernie caught an eastbound freight crossing the (other) Los Piños River near La Boca
:
The next day it's quiet at Chama while the crew grabs lunch. Per 'Rio Grande Narrow Gauge - The Final Years' by Hereford & Robart there was a Cumbres turn on 08/26/66, so this is probably between the "morning" and "afternoon" trains
:
The second section headed up the hill near Dalton on its way to Alamosa later in the day

To Be Continued
