The reference to "gallows" turntables got me wondering how many of them were used on the narrow gauge. I know of five -- SP's "Slim Princess" employed one at Laws and another at Owenyo. The Nevada County Narrow Gauge had one at Grass Valley, and the Pacific Coast Railway (California) had one at the San Luis Obispo engine house. Then there's the unusual turntable on the Ilwaco Railway & Navigation at Nahcotta, Washington. It's a "double gallows, with
two A-frames supporting the deck. This turntable is pictured on page 549 of Hilton's
American Narrow Gauge Railroads. Any others out that need to be added to this list?
