I have a railroader's different perspective on long trips. You folks never know what long hours are like to the crews that work nearly 12, used to be 16 hours every day after day. When a train man brought his family, relatives and friend out on one of these steam train trips, they enjoyed the country scenery, and found new respect for the fellow relative that had to work those long hours in such a tiring day. This title reflect the situation, but the employee felt and their family felt proud for what work was being done and what these train crews went through. The employee who took his family earned much new respect for the hard work that made up their career. It is not like laying on the sofa looking at a TV. The family soon learned to do a trip once a year or less for that stressfull reason.
Being out on the railroad is a long and tiring adventure. The death march was great fun and made for wonderful trips. These posts indicate a change in the life style over a generation.
