Greg; Somewhere back someone told me that the average snowfall on Cumbres was 600".Also I remember hearing an engine foreman say that when the passenger trains were still running they kept the track more snow free due to being faster than the freights. After they stopped the freights had more trouble. I'm afraid a once a week run would really have problems.
On one of the Rocky Club trips in the early 60's the passenger car steps were just skimming the rocks on the inside of the track at Windy Point.
They went in with a bulldozer and cleaned out the fallen rock and shoved it over the side. This created more of a wide shelf around the point and the wind carried the snow away whereas it had made
deep drifts there before.
Also, Thanks to all of you for the great pictures.
Merry Christmas!!
Jim
