Lots of sheep and cattle in that area and they were loaded at Gato.
The guys who lost their jobs after the abandonment were given a choice of open positions. The ones with the highest seniority got first choice. The guy at Taos Junction was first and chose Marshall Pass. I would have thought that Creede would have been preferable to Marshall Pass, but some of these guys were bachelors and like the outdoor life (hunting and fishing).
