Good find, John. But time has really taken it toil in the 30 years since the Gordon Chappell book was sold on "Logging along the D&RGW". Many on this list would love to have this rare book.
That was a branch of the D&RG at MP 312 that served and connected to R.W.Stewart & Co. logging track from 1890 to 1892. Logs were moved to the mill at Tres Piedras. Also look for the first spur 2 miles south of Tres Pierdras at MP 318.65 which went west 2.15 miles from 1888 to 1890. The first lumber branch was off at Tres Piedras to a mill site 8/31/1886, but its length west into the mountains is still in question. The map drawn freehand by R.W.Dorman in his "Chili" book (page-3)is fictional until more facts are found.
D&RG #17 was sold to R W Stewart 10/31/1888. It is now believed that Brooks #1091 2-6-0 was sold to him at Taos (county),NM in 1890 by Washburn & Northwestern RR of Wisc., conformation needed. PRR
