I found another interesting picture on the site Max first referred us to and it is another W H Jackson view looking towards Silverton on Eureka's main street. The date is attributed to ca 1900, but I think it may be earlier. I happen to own a lot on this street, and believe it is where the 2 story building is on the right side in front of the windmill. The SN would have been to Jackson's back if this was a 1900 era photo. I'm sure the correct date can be found. My yearly property taxes on this parcel are about $4.35, and the stamp used to mail my tax bill costs 44 cents, so the county almost doesn't make much on this little deal. There are only 8 privately owned lots in Eureka, the balance of several hundred are owned about equally by San Juan County and the Sunnyside Mining Co.
