This is patently incorrect.
Except for the number of powered axles the HG3/4 and the HG4/4 are the same as reguards their ability to go up and down hills.
Steam locootives need to have the firebox covered by water. On lines with prolonged gradients this is done by having the firebox at the downhill end. Obviously on some lines the locomotives need to be turned.
When I went to the line they had only re-opened as far as the summit tunnel. Therefore the line was similar to the line in Vietnam where one terminus was at a much higher elevation than the other.
Now they have re-opened the tunnel and go down the other side the locomotives are turned on a turntable at the summit.
As for them being turned on a wye in Vietnam. That would surprise me. On level track it would be a waste of time.
