The link works just fine, and the page answered a question I was about to ask -
whether the adhesion and cog wheels were linked together or operated separately.
It was noted that the height of the cog wheel can be adjusted a bit to compensate
for wear
; is it raised out of the way for operation on non-cog portions of the line, or
is the rack slightly above the level of the rails so that the cog wheel always clears
the rails when going through switches (or across roads) etc.?
I haven't been in Switzerland since the weeks just before and after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. IIRC, the headline on the newspaper in Wengen was "
Menner Im Mond" and the celebration lasted a couple of days. These posts - and Sebastien's on another thread - have inspired me to start planning and saving for a long vacation visiting Europe's many fascinating steam railways and museums.
