I've noticed in the story concerning the corrosive drinking water in Flint, MI that General Motors found the untreated water corrosive to the milling of the engine parts at their medium duty truck plant at Flint. In response GM switched over to another source several months before it came to light that lead was leeching in the system.
I was at the Hickleberry RR three times while this event was playing out but never drank the water. Another person I know said the drinking water was funky looking and tasting by glass.
My question is: Would this "bad water" have any harmful effects on the boiler or mechanics of 464??
Please don't turn this into a political discussion of fault. This forum is not the place for such!!
Perhaps someone with the Huck would know and answer.
Also what are the limits for good water sources for steam locomotives and additives needed to protect the machinery?
Thank- you
