In attempt to answer Eral Question I can supply the following data from a 6/1948 to 6/ 1949 Crew call book from Ridgway. Unforturately, otto Perry did not visit at that time to match a photo to a listing.
The order of the call was to the engineer and fireman for 10 minutes following the rest of the train crew for the train. Then the engineer and fireman were called for the helper to report at the same 10 minutes later than the train crew.
Example 6-19-1948 Nash #455 8:10am, Smith 8:10am, Chilbie, Mclean, Wallace at 8:00am. Quist, McClellan Engine #462 at 8:10am. "Helper off at Peak. [this was thru two day job turn at Telluride]
(Talbert -Dead head on #371 to Dolores to get Motor 5) WTB crew caller.
The next day Quist and Talbert called for Pacerville Helper #462 on duty Ridgway 8:15am.
The lead engine always controls the train air but the road engineer could release the brakes on his independent [his engine only]. Is that not correct?
Another example 10-03-1948 has road crew called at 8:10, trainmen at 8:00am and helper #42 called with McClellan and Lambet at 8:30am. Road crew with #464 ran to Rico instead with Talbert and Tucker enginemen. McLean Thallace Thomas trainmen.
