Some time ago I responded to a question by Greg Scholl on this subject. I now have more complete information. Ridership for the week ended September 21 was 2429, compared to 3022 for the comparable week a year ago. The week ended September 28 actually saw a slight increase, 3205 versus 3072. The the week ending October 5 was back down, 3102 versus 3606. Net net, relative to last year, ridership after September 11 is down about 1,200.
Prior to the terrorism, ridership was running about 17 percent ahead of last year. As of October 5, C&TS ridership for the season totalled 49,968, compared to 45,275 for the comparable period last year, down to a ten percent increase.
In those heady days prior to September 11, we were hoping that a robust fall color season would drive our ridership to close to 60,000. But obviously that is not happening. If riderhip for the balance of the year equals the same period last year, we'll end up with around 55,000.
