One thing to keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Photoshop has been around for about 15 years. Hundreds of plug-ins, filters, add-ons have been developed. Also more books have been written about Photoshop than any other computer software. Also there is a huge Photoshop community including a professional organization that publishes a Photoshop magazine and does workshops all over the country and had several large conventions each year.

Photoshop has a learning curve, but learning to play a piano takes longer than downloading a music file.
Also, I hear all these stories about virusus and crashes with Windows PCS. I was a technical writer and trainer at HP for 15 years and had three computers on my desk, a Windows PC, a MAC, and a UNIX workstation, so I had a chance to compare them every day. The MAC had just as many problems as my Windows PCs. I have never had a virus on any of my Windows PCs because I don't hang around porn sites and I have virus and other protection software running all the time.
Surveys have been done that indicate about 85% of all graphics on the Internet were produced with Photoshop.
I am not saying that some of these knockoff Photoshop copies are not useful, but do they have the support system that Photoshop does...I am sure they do not.
I was a pro photographer in the Air FOrce for 22 years including 7 years as an instructor in the Air Force photography school in Denver and I always like to go with the real thing.
