I drove the old dirt road over Cumbres many times from 1961 until after it was paved, and made the turn down to the section house. It's amazing what I don't recall. I checked with my old traveling companion Gordon Chappell who has a better memory for trivia, and he's pretty certain that the remnants of the gas station were gone by 1961. At least neither of us recall seeing anything. But we were pretty focused on the chooch. We did manage to buy a few postcards made from Lively photographs that were for sale in the old
Chama Mercantile. Say hello for me to the Cranky Railroad Preservationist Now In PA when you see him. He should know the answers to all your questions, hell he might have even bought gas at Cumbres.
