Hi Earl;
I had trouble getting my preceeding post posted
so I probally didn't get across that the way to check the top water glass cock is to close the bottom cock and then blow down the glass. This also gives you a nice clean glass, if the top cock isn't plugged.
I really believe that what this all boils down to is what are you comfortable with? Experience tells you when the glass is acting normally. If it
isn't acting normally you'd better find out why.
As for try cocks lying I can see that if you spin them wide open the steam might carry along some water and mislead you. Thing is, that's not the way to use try cocks. You ease them open to see if you have steam or water.
If you have a foaming condition you'll know it the instant you open the throttle because the water in the glass will shoot up and you'll get suds at the try cocks, water at the cylinder cocks and black rain out of the stack. But for ordinary conditions when I am running I feel safe and comfortable with the procedures I have mentioned in these posts.
