Hey, Mark can't have all the fun...glad your back Mark.
The equipment you saw was one of original box cars for the TVRR. This is the one that you see at the web site on the muesum efforts. It used to site over by the airport and was a tool shed for a car rental agency. We use it for or parts shed. In the engine house is our 36" 1899 Porter 0-4-0. She was restored and has seen her thrid century of service now. We have also built a tender to go behind her that we use for extra coal and crew (there is only so many that you can put in a Porter cab.) Additional track was laid by the members around the Alaskaland train shed due to our height being allot more than their equipment. (They have a gas powered 0-4-4 that they use for regular service.)
We also have one amusement style coach that we use behind the porter for riders. But future plans call for our own cars.
The engine shed was built by our memebers and is true to railroad building practice.
Down the road a few years, we hope to complete a larger building that will host restoration efforts and give us a little more comfort during the winter. It will have an indoor overhead crane and two work tracks. We hope to restore many more projects.
One member just completed building vilocipy (sorry on spelling), and it makes for a great work out. A speeder has just joined the group also.
There is alot of activity going on, and all are welcome. Marks activity and work have brought some great items in from Nome and opened the door for us in getting some other items to Fairbanks. You can see more about the TVRR on the Railway Preservation site (www.rypn.org) and look under artcicles.
