Officially, All D&S and C&TS track should be spike to 36" gage with the addition of 1/4" for every 10 degrees of curvature. This widening of gage for curve is the same for narrow gauge as it is for standard gauge. The change in 1/4" gage must not occure in less than 31 feet.
On Conrail, All tangent track outside of switches and crossings was/is spiked at 56 1/4" gage to reduce hunting. The change from 56 1/4 to 56 1/2 occures in 31 feet before and after any crossing, switch, and curve.
A company's track gauge is designed to put track out of service if the gauge fall in. The permitted widening of gage or limit is the same for NG or SG account the wheel width are standard for both. Industrial design wheel widths are not permitted under FRA jurisdiction. When the FRA extended jurisdiction over the recent Georgetown Loop, they had to have new tires made for the #12 drivers, but I have not heard about the other wheels on the engine or tender.
