There are book figures for track widths, which give precise specifications. However, the D&S MOW crew is not laying new track from Durango to Silverton. They are simply trying to keep the railroad running. I suspect that even in 1882, the exact widths were not always achieved.

As to K-37s on the San Juan; not until Bradshaw was a K-37 run in service from Durango to Silverton. I understand that the curvature was less on the line from here to Antonito.
