Well, here's MY opinion, and it probably isn't worth a tinker's damn to anybody else, but....
Historical knowledge is meant to be shared. Hoarded knowledge is mostly useless knowledge. I have respect the guys who passion is to search out these little tidbits -- up to a point. HOWEVER, if they expect me to kiss their smelly behinds just to get the to share (or to keep them from taking their bat and ball and going home) then it (and it doesn't matter what IT is) just isn't worth it to me.
From way out here it seems the real underlying problem is that the C&TS, unfortunately has to serve TWO masters. The living museum one, and the regional economic stimulus one. And when push becomes shove, the museum one usually (rightly IMO) loses over outright survival, and the history people get all bent out of shape.... I can understand WHY they get upset, but not how they display it. It often makes me think of Solomon and the baby... They want it their way even if it kills the C&TS in the process.
