The G&Q = Guayaquil & Quito, the major component of the Ferrocarriles Ecuatorianos, national RR of Ecuador (which, as I understand it, is now largely defunct--and more's the pity, believe me).
Steve and I both rode over the line on a Trains Unlimited, Tours, trip back in the 1990s. As have others here at NGDF--aboard charters and also on the G&Q's regularly scheduled (?) trains, first steam, then diesel.
The G&Q provided a most memorable trip for many reasons, not least of which was the opportunity to ride anywhere you wanted. On steam charters and also on the passenger trains, you were free to ride up on top of the cars, if you so wished. I spent most of the five days it took us to travel from Guayaquil (on the coast) to Quito on the top of a boxcar.
Anyone have some photos to post?
