It's certainly an odd shape, but my guess would be that it is a steam "take-off". Note the valve, and my guess is a steam line would be attached to the end of the pipe to power some kind of auxiliary machinery somewhere, or provide heat. The obvious question is why the long curved pipe. Perhaps there was a steam line in the roof of the roundhouse that lined up with the end of the curved pipe
