OK, I just HAD to post that photo... and I sincerely hope Jerry can take a little joke. I've got to add this: I have the utmost respect for Jerry in regards to his historical research... he's probably has the best grasp of day-to-day operations on the D&RGW of any of us.
I've also got to say that the good folks in charge of the railroad at Knotts have done a really good job with their operation. They have some of the ONLY authentic remaining D&RGW coaches (remember the ones on the Silverton have been extensively rebuilt) out there, and have gone to great lengths to return them to an authentic livery (OK, the lettering isn't exactly right, but I for one am not complaining!).
I too believe that the C&TS management should attempt to maintain the look of the railroad as it was during it's D&RGW days. The fact that most of the equipment as well as the entire fixed plant is authentic D&RGW equipment and not a mish-mash of cars and locomotives acquired from all over speaks loudly in that direction. Sure, they have some non-original equipment (the JBWX hoppers are a good example) but they are not presented as being original. This may well be an unique opportunity in the historic preservation movement in the US. Let's hope that the commissioners of the railroad see it that way as well.
