John:
((I like the photos you all post that capture the drama, beauty, humanity, and soul of the railroad far more than those which attempt to re-take the pics taken by Kindig, Perry, Moedinger, Shaughnessy, or Richardson.))
As you said at the end, it was your opinion. I know that you know some of us don't see it that way. Some of us do want to recreate the photos taken by these guys. One of the purposes of the C&TS was to be a living museum. I am a D&RGW fan, not a C&TS fan. The C&TS was a creation of political necessity. Bob Richardson orginally lettered his equipment for fictional railroads (Golden City & San Juan), but learned that it just confused visitors to the Museum who expected to see what the railroads looked like in the past.
This debate has gone on for years and probably will go on past my life time. You can restore an antique auto to its orginal appearance or make a hot rod out of it. You can say that both are historic, but one shows you what it was like in the past.
My opinion is worth about as much as yours.
