My opinion(for what its worth---not much), is they should concentrate on restoring the existing fleet of freight cars that are currently out of service. In 1997 when we were there, only a handful of cars were deemed operational due to FRA crackdown, with such things as loose grabirons, etc. Seems to me that a work session crew could make huge strides in refurbishing a few useable freight cars, before starting to restore a box car coach back to its original configuration.
Don't get me wrong, the idea of doing the conversion is not a bad one, but lets get some of the other cars back in service that maybe don't require as much effort. Some of these cars might be ones friends worked on in the past, so why not keep them maintained, rather than further deterioration. Just my thoughts!
