Kevin, if I recall correctly about 7-8 boxcar coaches are still considered serviceable. One had its seats removed to serve as an open area (for concessions on Friends trips, I think), and two of the original bathroom cars got retention tanks.
209 is being returned to its original configuration as a boxcar by the Friends. Eventually, many of the others will probably get the same treatment. But everyone agrees that 3-4 (one or two coaches, a concession car, and a bathroom car) should be kept to illustrate a significant period in the railroad's history.
