Jim Pearce was Road Foreman of Engines when he hired me as fireman
at Alamosa in 1963. I did my student trips east to LaVeta and west to Chama, and worked out of Alamosa until sent over to Durango around the
first of August. Spent the rest of my time there until laid off in
1964. (Arbitration Award cut everybody off with less than 2 years
seniority...for featherbedding.....and I had a scoop shovel job!)

I went to work for the Western Pacific as a switchman after that for a while until I finished college. I could have gone back to Durango and hired out anew, but never did.

Went back to work in the Communications department of the D&RGW after college.
