Fixing the loop

Still out of service. I am told it needs to be surveyed and changes made in the alignment to remove excessive curvature. Cords on the loop were measured last year and sections were found where the curvature appearred to be as high as 35 degrees. Maximum acceptable curvature for C&TS locos is 26 degrees. It is unclear whether the problem was the result of kinks developing over the years, or poor construction. Dan is in the process of arranging for the survey. Once the survey is completed, we'll develop a plan to fix it. Best case is it will involve some fairly simple realignment on the existing subgrade. Worst case is we will have to extend the fill or do some other major work that may require getting permits from the Forest Service, who owns the adjacent land. Operationally, it would be real nice to have it back in service, but it has to compete with a bunch of other MofW projects all of which are important.
