What was done last year was to remove all the stuff except the jacket from the boiler of 483, in preparation for asbestos removal. 483 and 492 are siting side by side in the old roundhouse, so it is hoped they can both be done at once. The estimate i heard was $10,000 apiece, since it has to be done by a 'professionsl' asbestos remover.
In answer to your question, yes they DID put asbetos under the jacket. Lots of it.
The Chama webcam is one of the best kept secrets about the CTSRR, chiefly because some folks wish it didn't exist. As you will soon see it is about to become the WORST kept secret in Chama.
You might want to wander over to the Goat once in a while, because you can get news there that you will never see here.
