Just to add one more thing to the fire here...the locos at Promontory....yes when they were built, they were completely historically accurate, right down to being wood burners....later, they were both converted to oil buring with wood carried for looks...This was from a vist there several years ago...They still 'look' accurate, but are very modern.
Also, didn't the Mt Washington Cog Railroad have new locos built about the same time that were built to the original specs but with all new construction techniques.
I have to agree with Steve, I would much rather see some of the other locos rebuilt than just sitting there.
For example, I know I brought this up last year, 483 is dead, but what of 492, 495 and the other K-37 (I forget the number). 492 is in the Chama yard and has always been there since 1976 when I first went up. It just seems to be moved from place to place in the yard. And the others are at Antonito...Are there plans for them or are they just there for looks until they rust away....
As for the flood lights...I am in favor of security over historical accuracy. If I recall, don't those locos sit out at nite, under steam waiting for the next days run....I would sure hate for some jerk to turn off the water or do some other damage that could cause a catastrophic situation. That brings me to another question...C&TS does have insurance in case something happens doesn't it?
