Who knows how many other ideas for RR routes were never filed or recorded. At one time or another there were probably proposals to run a railroad through just about every canyon, gorge or gully in the state.
I always wondered why the South Park never built the line to Fairplay and Alma over Red Dirt Pass instead of all the way down to Garos and back up, especially after they quit running anything south of Como except to Fairplay and Alma. Probably too cheap when they were building the line (with transcontienental aspirations) and too poor any other time after that.
