There is a possibility that the engineer on the 489 was Lester Gregg, who was born on 9-6-1896. He was No. 9 in 1954 but three of those were still carried on the engineers board even though they had disability pensions. Does the man on the film look 58-years-old?
James G. Brokaw was the first engineer on the mid-1950s Salida NG engineers' board who was born in the 20th Century. He was born in 1903.
R.I Britton, who hired out as a fireman on 3-18-1943 could have been one of the coal slingers.
Of course this is all speculation since we need documents to actually find out who was on the train.
