Don,
My father was one of the many people who worked on saving the C&TS back in 1970. He often tells me the story of an old lady who lived in Antonito that would swear at them in the mornings when they where getting 483 ready for its days work at getting rolling stock over to Chama.
She was very, very angery that they were spending her tax money on all this old junk. The guys tried to not take her too seriously but my dad said it got him down sometimes that some of the local people where so against what he and other were trying to save.
I wonder if that old lady would be as short sighted today?
My point Don is that many people will not have the future vision that you have. Don’t let these people get you down. If we had let those people win in the past, then we would have no Georgetown Loop, Leadville highline or Colorado Railway museum but we would have a real nice dirt road though the Toltec Gorge.
Remember, in 10 years these same people may be thanking you for something that they now can enjoy, just as I thank my father and all the others like Bob, John, and many more would helped save the C&TS and did not let an old lady with no vision get to them.
Keep up the hard work and thanks for doing so.
Tim Bain
